Nesse momento da existência, os raios e as forças que, durante os anos da juventude e da virilidade, dispersávamos para todos os lados em nossa atividade e exuberância, concentram-se, convergem para as profundezas do ser, ativando a consciência e proporcionando ao homem mais sabedoria e juízo. Pouco a pouco vai-se fazendo a harmonia entre os nossos pensamentos e as radiações externas; a melodia íntima afina com a melodia divina.
Há, então, na velhice resignada, mais grandeza e mais serena beleza que no brilho da mocidade e no vigor da idade madura. Sob a ação do tempo, o que há de profundo, de imutável em nós, desprende-se e a fronte dos velhos aureola-se de claridades do Além.
